KETO KIDS: STAR-SPANGLED KETONES

               

Hi Keto Kids Family.

Can you believe it is mid-summer here in Ohio?  July 4th celebrations are this weekend and summer is in full swing. Harper and Bug I hope this summer finds you taking advantage of those healthy meats on the grill. And those high-fat, low-sugar desserts we all love.  While the celebrations with food are good.  Remember the real blessing is having loved ones, friends, and family to share the holiday with.  It really is about the people and love, not just the food. 

This is also a great time to introduce some great alternatives at family gatherings.  Taking healthy options for you to eat will also be a way to introduce this way of eating to family members that may be more resistant to trying.  When they realize we are not deprived and that we actually enjoy this way of eating, they may be more apt to join in. Building generational health is the goal.  I will share with you some great treats for kids and adults alike, that will please even those picky eaters in your family.

Healthy keto options

 

Are you prepped and ready for the upcoming holiday?  Are you prepared to have healthy choices in place of the normal surgery favorites at a cookout?  Take enough for you and enough to share. 

Learning how to modify your family favorites is a skill you will just keep improving on as you walk along your keto journey.  A few tips to try substituting:

  • Use Substitutions as you can.  
  • Better Stevia French Vanilla liquid stevia, or Now Foods Monk Fruit in place of sugar in those desserts.  It is not perfect for us keto veterans, but a much better option than cups of sugar. Note: A little stevia goes a long way.
  • Use Heavy Whipping Cream with a drip of Better Stevia French Vanilla or Sugar-Free Vanilla Syrups, to make the "fluff" so many recipes call for.  Again, not perfect, but still a better option.
  • Cream Cheese and Heavy Whipping Cream with a small amount of Torani Sugar-Free Syrups make great icing.  Still a better choice than icing made with 2 cups of sugar.
  • Use Keto Chow Flavors to add to plain yogurt to make some fruity-flavored treats. Use Code: JOURNEYTOKETO to save $$ 
  • Meat and Cheese trays are always a hit.
  • Cheese Balls are also a great choice.

Do you see where we are going with this?  Don't overcomplicate it.  Just make some minor tweaks and you will be off to that cookout in no time at all.

 

Prepped and Ready

 

First, I would like to say, always be prepared before you head out. We are in the midst of summer celebrations, you must stay prepared.  This is a huge one to keep you set up for success, and not fall off the wagon, or allow your kids to have an endless supply of sugar.  You don't want caught off guard.  This can be easier said than done.  I know you are wondering how we go about this. 

 

First, you must think ahead

 

Keep the weather in mind.  Is it going to be really hot?  Will you be outside sweatingSparkling Harper and losing electrolytes during the fun activities?  If you answered yes, then you must have electrolytes ready.  There are multiple ways to use these and make them fun for kids and adults.  LMNTs come in so many good summer flavors, you can make everything from milkshakes (blended with ice and heavy cream), to slushies when blended with ice.  These come in individual serving-size packets. They are also great just in a dispenser with ice.  Self-serve and flavors that will please everyone are a sure way to keep those electrolytes flowing.  These are a much better option than those surgery energy drinks. The next great option is ketones.  With the temperature rising and spending long hours in the sun this weekend, ketones are a great way to keep your energy up and stay hydrated. Dr. Boz's Flavored Ketones come in many flavors that kids and adults will love. You have multiple ways to use these ketones. One of our favorites is electrolytes and ketone popsicles.  I mean who doesn't love popsicles? It's a great way to cool off and get ketones and electrolytes in on a hot day. Ketones are also a great option to mix and drink in cold water. Some of our favorites are:

KETO KIDS: KEEPING IT KETO

 

This weekend will be tempting to go from party to party and overindulge. Remember to stay focused on your goals. Remember how far you have come and remember the Maddox and Bugsugar habits you have already broken in yourself and your kids.  Introducing sugar to them now is just teasing their sugar addictions.  You know how to do this.  Don't derail your progress just because it is a holiday.  

The most important thing is to prepare. Take food with you that is keto-friendly for you and your kiddos. This may be a struggle as other kids are overeating sugar, candy, and sweet treats. You can supplement with healthier and better options. You are healing them! You are growing healthy brains. You are doing what is best for their brains and bodies.  Stay the course.

               We always take our own food with us, and we always take enough to share.  Our friends love our food just as much as we do. This is also a win, if they understand they can still have delicious food, and they can modify their favorites, maybe one day it will make them understand they too, can begin a journey of healing. I hope to eventually teach them the process of building STRONG, HEALTHY, METABOLICALLY HEALING bodies. Not just for them but for their kids as well.   Planting the seeds of building generational health for those we love.
