As Thanksgiving approaches, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the temptation of traditional dishes and endless desserts. But this holiday isn’t just about what’s on your plate—it’s about the people, the love, the connection, and gratitude around your table. With a little planning and the right mindset, you can enjoy the day while staying on track with your health goals.

Here’s how to navigate Thanksgiving with intention and set yourself up for success, no matter where you are on your health journey.

Go In with a Plan

The key to enjoying Thanksgiving without guilt or setbacks is having a plan. Here are three approaches to consider:

Stay Totally On Track

Stick to your goals by focusing on high-density nutrition: eat the meat, add the fat, and cut the crap. Load your plate with turkey, ham, and healthy fats like butter or olive oil, while skipping the sugar and carb-heavy sides.

Moderation in Mind

Find balance by prioritizing protein and fats, but allow yourself a few bites of your favorite holiday treats. Savor the flavors you love while keeping control—don’t let those bites turn into a binge.

All Restraints Are Off ~ Not Recommended

If you decide to fully embrace the holiday and enjoy everything it has to offer, do so with caution. This choice will awaken those addiction and will be the hardest to recover from. Be Mindful, and don’t beat yourself up, but make a plan to reset right after the festivities.  Do NOT let this Holi-DAY become a Holi-WEEK

No matter which path you choose, the key is accountability. Go in with a plan you feel good about and stick to it.  This is a great time to take note of how much you control your food addictions, or how much your food addictions control you.

The Real Meaning of Thanksgiving

Here’s a reminder that has carried me through every holiday: “It’s not about the food on your plate, it’s about the love and people around your table.”

Take a moment this Thanksgiving to look up when you say grace. Look at the faces of your loved ones and remember why you’re truly grateful. The food will be forgotten, but the love and connection you share will stay with you forever.

Most importantly, your health matters. No one will care what was on your plate if you’re not there next year. Let’s celebrate the love, not just the food.

End the Holiday with a Game Plan

Once the holiday is over, it’s time to refocus and avoid letting Thanksgiving turn into a HOLI-WEEK.
