Where We’ve Been—and Why It Matters
We’ve been a bit quiet lately, and it’s time to share why. The past few weeks have shaken our world in a way that reminded us just how fragile life can be—and just how deeply we value our health, our family, and the legacy we’re working so hard to build.
This isn’t just a diary entry—it’s a testimony. A testimony of love, leadership, and what it means to walk the walk of generational health when the stakes get real. When the journey gets personal, when prayer and leading by example are all you can do.
Bill: The Leader, The Legacy, The Man Who Inspires Us All
Many of you know and love Bill—Lance’s dad, our family’s rock, and a man who defines integrity, and love of family, through every fiber of his being. At 85, he still lives with more strength and stamina than most 50-year-olds. But his strength isn’t just physical—it’s in how he led by example every single day. It’s the way he shared his motto of “Fit for Life” so naturally through work and family.
Bill has always been the leader, never sat still, and never asked someone to do a job he wouldn’t do himself. In the business he and Lance ran together, he earned respect the old-fashioned way—by showing up early, working hard, and standing shoulder to shoulder with every employee on every job. It didn’t matter if it was a tough job or a hot day—Bill was right there in the dirt. Side by side with his crew. And to this day, when we run into someone who worked for them, the admiration for Bill pours out without hesitation. The love and respect is repeated time and time again. This is the life of a true leader and a man full of faith, love and legacy shared with everyone who knows him.
That’s the legacy he lives to this day.
So when we got the call that Bill was experiencing stroke-like symptoms and later learned his left carotid artery was 100% blocked and inoperable, it knocked the wind out of us, especially Lance. This wasn’t just a medical emergency—it was a moment that stopped our world, shook our reality, and needed time to adjust to the new normal.
He’s home now, learning a new pace, with plenty of eyes on him (much to his dismay). But he’s doing exactly what the doctors told him—live life and make memories. And that is exactly what we are doing. Family First!
The Memory Maker: More Than Just a Boat
One of the most treasured parts of Lance’s relationship with his dad is a beautiful fiberglass jet boat—a 1971 Tahiti, jet boat powered by a 454 big block chevy. It wasn’t just a project—it was a bonding experience, a sacred rite of passage and the memories to bless a lifetime.
They rewired, rebuilt, and reupholstered this boat together, inch by inch. And it was appropriately named: “Memory Maker.” Because that’s exactly what it became. From sharing his first beer with his dad to years of boating and skiing together on Lake Mohawk, the boat represents decades of love, laughter, and legacy.
Today, Lance holds onto that boat not just as a vessel—but as a symbol. It’s a reminder of his father’s values: hard work, family time, craftsmanship, and making memories on purpose.
And now, as Bill begins to slow down, Lance is stepping into the leadership role his father held for so long. It’s not about filling his shoes-it’s about honoring his legacy by continuing to live with intention and lead with love and purpose.
Maddox’s Seizures & Our Family’s Keto Comeback
While still navigating Bill’s recovery, another curveball came our way. Our 12-year-old grandson Maddox—our only grandson and the youngest of our grandkids—had a seizure out of the blue. He’s our “keto kid,” our numbers nerd who loves tracking glucose, ketones, and competing for the best Dr. Boz Ratio.
He’s never had any neurological issues before. But this seizure changed everything. My kids rushed him to the ER and after multiple tests—MRI, EEG, CT, and labs—we got confirmation: epileptic activity in his brain. Not what we wanted to hear. But we do know exactly what our first line of defense is going to be. And he has the perfect parents to lead the way. Together we can do this. Living this lifestyle as a family is what we do best!!
Right now, Maddox can’t be out of our sight. He needs constant supervision—whether he’s swimming, showering, sleeping, riding motorbikes, or just playing outside. He is a 12 year old little boy, just wanting to have fun, so this is a huge adjustment for him as well as the rest of the family. And while it’s emotionally overwhelming, we’re leaning into what we know. Doing what we know, and leading by example again.
Why Nutritional Ketosis Matters Now More Than Ever
We’re not guessing our way through this—we’re walking out a path we’ve walked for years. Nutritional ketosis isn’t new to us. It’s the foundation of our family’s health, and now, it’s our frontline defense.
Did you know? Over 50% of children with epilepsy who follow a ketogenic diet experience a 50%+ reduction in seizures. Up to 10–15% become completely seizure-free—often without needing more medication. Early implementation matters. Keeping ketones in circulation to help his brain is our goal. No guessing here!! Checking with his Keto-Mojo Meter is a must and something he can do on his own.
Empowering him to track and manage his own numbers, is teaching him that he CAN help navigate his health journey by making healthy choices. He is learning how every choice he makes, is a direct effect on his numbers and health. If he can do this, so can we, and so can YOU!
This is why we’re going all in.
From Bill, to us, to our son Adam and daughter, Jen (Maddox’s parents), and now down to Harper and Maddox—four generations of our family live this lifestyle. We’ve always believed in metabolic health, but now we’re watching it become our saving grace for the next generation.
Lessons learned and enforced ~ If we expect our 12-year-old grandson to live under 20 carbs a day and track his ratios, then so will we. If we expect him to stop eating after 4 PM, then so will we. If we expect him to not snack between meals, then so can we. If we want him to thrive—not just survive—then we must lead by example.
Our Chemistry Took a Hit, Too
We’d love to say we’ve held it together perfectly, but the truth is, stress affects chemistry. Even while eating clean, the cortisol surge from fear, lack of sleep and constant worry trying to find a new normal has impacted our numbers. So we’re back to the tools we know and trust—clean fasting, sardine resets, morning cold plunges, sauna, hot-tub, prayer, and community. This is what we know to do. Direction…Not perfection. Together we got this! Doing what we can each day to move in the right direction.
Because this is what healing looks like in real life. Direction, not perfection. Together, we got this!
