It’s time for our December Survival Grocery Guide. December is here, and with it comes the joy (and chaos) of family gatherings, business parties, and unexpected visits. Staying healthy and happy through the holidays can be challenging. That is why we have created a December Survival Grocery Guide to help you through. December is a month to celebrate with friends and loved ones you may not have seen all year. They may not know the importance of your health journey and this may lead to awkward or difficult moments. From being asked to bring a dish to a potluck, to needing something quick for surprise guests, the holidays require a little extra planning—especially when you’re living a healthy lifestyle that others may not understand yet.
At Journey to Healing, we believe you can enjoy the season without derailing your health journey. Whether you’re celebrating with keto-friendly treats or indulging in savory snacks, a little preparation goes a long way.
With a well-stocked pantry and refrigerator, you will be able to serve up some great snacks as fast as Santa’s little Elves in the workshop!🎅🏼🎅🏼 Without breaking the budget 💲.
Healthy Holiday Staples From Your Grocery Guide
Meat & Cheese Trays
A crowd-pleaser that’s easy to assemble and perfect for every occasion. Include high-quality cured meats, cheeses, olives, and pickles for a delicious charcuterie board that is quick and easy. Try to focus on good, real cheeses. (no canned or processed cheeses). Hard, aged cheeses usually tend to be better for you and are easy to cut up for your trays. Avoid shredded cheeses as these will have extra carbs to keep them from clumping. Buy the bricks of cheese and shred or cut up yourself if needed.
Fatty Dips
Think spinach and artichoke dip, guacamole, or a creamy sour cream-based dip paired with pork rinds or low-carb veggies like celery and cucumber. Use these creamy, fatty dips in place of jams, and jelly’s. This will keep the temptation and carb count to a minimum, and your fat count high. This will keep you feeling fuller and less tempted to stray too far off plan.
Nuts & Olives
A handful of roasted pecans, almonds, or macadamia nuts is an easy way to enjoy a crunchy snack without the sugar crash. Just be mindful of how fast these carbs add up. Think of these as more for your guests than yourself. Olives are another good choice. You can get these stuffed with cheeses, or stuff them yourself with your favorite creamy cheese.
Keto-Friendly Treats
Keep a stash of sugar-free chocolate or homemade fat bombs for when the cookie trays come out. Brown Butter Bites are a great fat source and great treat to keep on hand during the tempting moments.
Holiday Beverages
Warm up with unsweetened herbal teas, sparkling water, or even a homemade keto eggnog to stay festive and hydrated.
Our family always loves hot chocolate made with LMNT’s Chocolate Flavors, or Dr. Boz Dutch Chocolate Ketones. Add these to some heavy cream, with a squirt of whipped cream and you have the perfect cozy drink everyone can enjoy.
A little club soda with a splash of Dr. Boz’s Pucker Up Ketones, and a squeeze of lime poured into a Redmond’s Salted rimmed glass, on the rocks makes the perfect Keto-Rita. This will also help curb your hunger and help you resist any temptations that may be poking at you.
Tips for Navigating Holiday Gatherings
1. Bring a Dish From your Grocery Guide You can Enjoy
Volunteer to bring something you know aligns with your lifestyle. A meat and cheese tray is always perfect. This ensures you’ll have a dish you can enjoy without worry and it is always a crowd pleaser.
2. Communicate Your Needs
If someone asks why you’re eating differently, share your story with pride. You might even inspire someone else to make healthier choices! Remember… “NO THANK YOU” is a complete sentence and is NOT being rude. You are never obligated to eat or drink anything that does not serve your health journey.
3. Plan Ahead with our Grocery Guide
Keep quick, ready-to-serve snacks on hand at home for surprise visits or last minute hostess gifts to take with you. Our Printable December Survival Grocery Guide has you covered. Most of these items can be found at most chain stores including Aldi’s and Walmart to keep this budget friendly.
