Wellness from the Ground UP
A healing home is vital for your health. Health is not built in just one area of life. You can’t eat clean food but live in a toxic environment and expect lasting wellness. Similarly, you can’t create a toxin-free home while consuming toxic foods or allow constant stress to flood your mind and body with cortisol. True health is built at every level. When all areas of life work together, you create generational health — a legacy of wellness for your family.
In this blog post, we’ll explore how to create a healing home environment from the ground up. By focusing on key areas like mind, body, spirit, and home, you’ll discover how to eliminate toxins and rebuild health in every aspect of life.
Why You Need a Healing Home Environment
A healing home environment supports physical, emotional, and spiritual health. When you clear toxins from your food, body products, relationships, and even your thoughts, you create a space where healing can thrive.
Here’s the key idea: You can’t heal in the same environment that made you sick. Your body is constantly responding to its surroundings, from the air you breathe to the food you eat to the stress in your relationships. By taking small, intentional steps in these areas, you’ll build a healthy, healing space for you and your family. As always, this is not about perfection, it is about direction.
Key Areas for Building a Healing Home Environment
1. Mindset: The Foundation for Lasting Change
Your mind is the control center for your health journey. Without a healthy mindset, every effort you make to change your body or environment will be short-lived. Here’s how to create a healing mindset:
A grateful heart, is a healing heart.
- Set your Intention: What are you actually wanting to accomplish? Be mindful and intentional. How determined are you to make it happen. Do you intend on this being a “jump in with both feet” approach, or are you a “slow and steady” kind of person? Set a realistic, achievable goal for yourself.
- Replace negative thoughts with health-building thoughts: Pay attention to the inner conversations in your mind. If thoughts like “I’ll never get healthy” or “this is too hard” pop up, reframe them to “I’m capable of change” “I’m making progress every day” and “I can do hard things.“
- Practice prayer and gratitude: Daily prayer, journaling, and practicing gratitude can shift your perspective from defeat to hope. Gratitude rewires your brain to focus on growth and possibilities. A gratitude journal, combined with your prayer journal is a great way to begin every morning. You can find some of my favorite Bible and Journaling Supplies here in our Amazon Store: Bibles and Journal
- Create a positive environment: Surround yourself with encouraging people, uplifting music, and motivational content. Avoid media that fuels stress, anger, or hopelessness. Avoid reading or listening to anything that brings you down. Build a gratitude board or a prayer room in your home for a spot to recharge and fill your spirit.
With the right mindset, every other area of health becomes easier to manage. Your mind must believe it before your body achieves it.
2. Body: Detox from the Inside Out
Your body’s ability to heal is directly linked to what you put in it and on it. Start by clearing out toxins from both areas:
Detox IN the Body
- Eliminate processed foods: Avoid sugars, preservatives, artificial dyes, and refined grains. Processed foods disrupt metabolic health and lead to inflammation. This is one of the first steps to building health. We do this together in our Group Health Memberships.
- Read food labels: If you can’t pronounce the ingredient, you probably don’t need it in your body. Stick to whole, single-ingredient foods like clean proteins, and healthy fats. If you are in need of restocking your kitchen with better options. Please check out Primal Kitchen and be sure to use our code: JOURNEYTOKETO to save $$.
Detox ON the Body
- Switch to clean body care products: Your skin absorbs what you put on it, so swap out chemical-laden shampoos, lotions, and deodorants for non-toxic, natural alternatives.
- Focus on direction, not perfection: Don’t aim for perfection — aim for direction. Every small switch, like swapping out one lotion or cleaning product, makes a difference. We will guide you through these steps, one area at a time. Small consistent steps will help your begin. You can read more on this process here in our blog Consistency is Key.
By detoxing both in and on your body, you’ll reduce your toxic load, ease your liver’s workload, and support natural healing. All of these things working together will begin to turn your health around. We will continue to learn and grow on this in the future. One step at a time.
3. Spirit: Nourish Your Soul for True Wellness
Your spiritual health affects your overall wellness more than you realize. What you consume spiritually impacts your mental health, stress levels, and emotional well-being. Here’s how to foster a healthy spirit:
- Surround yourself with positivity: Music, books, podcasts, and media can uplift or drain you. Choose inputs that feed your spirit in a way that supports your goals. Think of when you were a child and the first Christmas song of the season would fill your heart with joy in anticipation for the season to come. Remember how the energy felt, the excitement, and the way it would just make you feel good. Now think of what the opposite will do. The negative, nasty, downward spiraling music will never leave you feeling good. Be mindful of what you and your family listen to.
- Create a peaceful work environment: If you’re surrounded by chaos, your stress hormones (like cortisol) stay elevated, which negatively impacts health. Make your workspace as calm as possible. Make it attractive to you. Light the candle. Clear the clutter. Enjoy your setting. Occasional stress, be it physical, emotional, or clutter, at work is one thing. When it becomes constant or daily, it will have a direct affect on your health journey. Then you need to have the conversation with yourself, “is your job worth losing your health over?”
- Evaluate your relationships: Do your relationships bring peace or stress? Set healthy boundaries where necessary. A smaller circle of meaningful relationships is usually more peaceful than many shallow relationships that just create chaos in your life.
- Prioritize prayer and stillness: Daily quiet time with God helps you recenter and refocus on your goals. It’s essential for both spiritual and physical health. I like to keep my prayer and gratitude journal right in the middle of my desk each night so it is the first thing I see when I sit down in the morning. You can read more on Your Spiritual Journey vs. Healthy Journey on this blog post.
When you feed your spirit with positivity and purpose, you’re better equipped to handle the ups and downs of life and health challenges.
4. Home: Detox Your Physical Environment
Your home should be your sanctuary — a place of calm, peace, and healing. But if your home is filled with toxic cleaning supplies, clutter, and chaos, it’s not supporting your health journey.
Detox Your Space
- Swap toxic cleaning supplies: Traditional cleaning supplies are filled with harmful chemicals. Switch to non-toxic, homemade options using simple ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, and essential oils. We will be working on these in our Monthly Health Coaching Memberships. Together we will learn to make simple, economical cleaning solutions.
- Eliminate indoor air pollution: Invest in houseplants or an air purifier to reduce dust, mold, and toxins in the air. Be careful with scented candles, aerosol room sprays, and smoking of any kind in your home.
- Declutter your space: Clutter adds mental stress and makes it hard to relax. Declutter your home so it feels calm and peaceful. This one is huge. You will be amazed at how much your health journey will glide through when you begin to eliminate the clutter from your home. Everything just begins to fall in to place. We tackle some of this together as well. We will set your kitchen up for success, which requires a great clean out of the refrigerator, pantry and most cupboards. This is another step we can do together to build a healthy environment. When we do these things together in our Group Health Coaching Membership, it really is easier to work through the struggles of purging together.
Create a Peaceful Sanctuary
- Make it feel safe: If relationships within your home feel stressful, it’s time to set boundaries. Your home should be a refuge from the world. Your home should be your calm, your place to recharge, and the place to let your guard down. If it is not, then it’s time to evaluate the problems.
- Reduce noise and chaos: Turn off the TV, put away your phone, and create quiet spaces where family members can recharge. Spend time enjoying your home. Look around, what are your favorite spots, what are the little things your really love and appreciate about your home? Is it filled with memories and love of a life well lived? If not, change that.
With a clean, calm, and organized home, you’ll feel more in control of your health journey. This space should nourish and support you. Make you smile, and fill your heart with love and peace.
Building Generational Health
When you create a healing home environment, you’re not just building health for yourself — you’re building generational health. The habits you establish today will influence your children, grandchildren, and beyond. Teaching your family to prioritize health in every area (mind, body, spirit, and home) builds a legacy of wellness.
This isn’t about perfection; it’s about direction. Each small improvement, like switching out a chemical cleaner or replacing sugar-filled snacks with whole foods, brings you closer to that goal. You are leading by example for everyone around you. This is how we build generational health.
Start where you are. Clean one area at a time. Each change you make matters. There is no perfect spot to start. Therefore, if the kitchen is most important to you, then start there. If you are not able to sleep because your bedroom is full of clutter and chaos, then start there. Maybe it is as simple as making a nice fresh smelling batch of cleaning products and just begin to clean. Whatever you choose, it is just one little step at a time. Do not let this become overwhelming. YOU decide the speed. YOU decide the direction. You are in control of this process. Enjoy the process and know that you are making changes for the better. Let’s make 2025 the year to thrive. Physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Let’s make YOU and your health a priority.
