Being a Grandparent is a Special Role

Filled with love, joy, and the opportunity to support our family in various ways. One important aspect of this support is understanding and respecting you are the "supporting role" when it comes to their family's lifestyle and diet. In this blog post, we'll explore how we can be supportive as grandparents whether our grandchildren are living a ketogenic lifestyle or not, while also respecting their parents' choices, whether they follow keto or not.

The keto lifestyle, is a way of eating that focuses on consuming low-carbohydrate, high-fat foods. It aims to shift the body's primary source of energy from carbohydrates to fats. This lifestyle has gained popularity due to its health benefits, including brain development, ability to control ADHD, weight loss, better sleep, improved cognitive thinking, improved energy levels, and better blood sugar control.

As a Keto Loving Grandparent,

it's important to respect the decisions made by your children regarding their family's lifestyle and diet. Some parents choose to follow a keto lifestyleKeto Family for various reasons, while others may have different dietary preferences. Regardless of their choices, it's crucial to support and respect their decisions, as they are responsible for the well-being of their children.  The best thing us as grandparents can do, is to lead by example.  And support the kids and grandkids with better choices when they come to your house.  Or take keto friendly options when you go to their homes.

Educate as the opportunity arises.  My little Maddox is our numbers boy.  He loves to read labels and do the math to count down from the 20 total carbs a day.  Harper is our little speed racer. Her mission is to be the absolute best at driving that Jr. Dragster. And to beat the boys, of course. This requires her brain being in peak performance on race days.  Which means, fueled by Dr. Boz's Ketones,  not glucose.  We use each of our kids currency to encourage them to make the best choices to help them reach their goals.  This is where you come in for support.  Find what matters to them, and help them see the benefits of ketones in circulation. Teach themEmpower them!

You can't force feed this lifestyle to anyone.  Giving them good, tasty options to make the transition on their own is the goal.  Showing them that we are not deprived in any way and still enjoy our meals.  This opens to door to teach about the dopamine response we look for in food, truly needs to come from the people around the table, not the food on your plate.  This connection will come with time.  But is a great motivator to keep you leading by example.

When the little ones come over, have some fun treats like cheese sticks, meat sticks, or little pepperoni's.  These are not perfect, as they are processed, BUT, still better choices than the typical sugary snacks. It is also easy to make them our yummy keto pudding.  Watch how easy this is to make here on our YouTube video. We will be sharing more of our family fun recipes in the weeks to come.

Empowering the kids

to make better choices is key.  Teaching them to read labels and learn to count carbs is a great math lesson to help them get involved in making choices.  It really helps to involve them in the choices, with a gentle nudge in the direction they need to go.  Remember, their dopamine response is just like ours.  Tammie, Harper & MaddoxThey are also used to food being their coping skill, and their reward system.  We taught them that.  We need to reteach them that food is our fuel and nourishment, not just the thrill of the dopamine response.  This is a process, and it takes time. We can help you with this process in our  FREE Private Keto Kids Club Facebook Group.  This Special Private Group is for the Parents, Grandparents, and the Kiddo's. This will be a save environment to encourage a Keto Lifestyle and help you with tips and tricks along the way.

As grandparents, we have an incredible opportunity to support our family's choices, including their decision to embrace a keto lifestyle. By educating ourselves, maintaining open communication, and providing support through meal planning and snack alternatives, we can create an environment that respects both the keto lifestyle and other dietary choices within the family. You can join our Journey to Keto Lifestyle Group on Facebook.  This is free support with like minded people, sharing the same struggles as you do.  Let's embrace this supportive role and contribute to the overall health and happiness of our grandchildren and their parents.  This is a lifestyle we want to do with our family, not to them.

Remember, it's all about love, understanding, and creating a harmonious environment that promotes healthy choices for the whole family.  Empower your kids.  Together we can change their future.

In health and love,

xoxo

Tammie
