Birthdays are only once a year… and thank goodness for that! One celebration meal can create a ripple effect on your health, and this morning’s glucose numbers tell the story loud and clear.

This weekend, we celebrated Lance’s 54th birthday with an indulgent dinner date. We enjoyed steak, lobster, bang shrimp, and coleslaw—a meal that “looks”  aligned with our usual way of eating. The exception? A single slice of key-lime birthday cake that Lance and I shared. The thin breading on the shrimp and some questionable ingredients in the dipping sauce, were the two silent killers in the main meal.   It was a sweet moment of celebration, but this morning, the aftermath told a different story.

This morning’s health stats revealed the impact of that one celebration meal:

  • BG (Blood Glucose): 123
  • BK (Blood Ketones): 0.6
  • DBR (Dr. Boz Ratio): 205

These numbers are a clear reminder that every bite matters when it comes to controlling your health journey. While the meal wasn’t extremely off-plan, that half slice of cake, and questionable sauces, eaten outside my eating window had a significant effect. This is why I always stress that you control your healing mode with every single meal, every bite. It may not be the only factor influencing your health, but it’s certainly one of the biggest that you can control. In a life filled with things we can’t control, this is one area where we hold the power. Remember, what you eat today, is the building blocks for tomorrow’s cells.

The Ripple Effect of a Celebration Meal

One celebration meal can shift your body out of healing mode. Imagine if this happened a couple of times a week… or worse, multiple times a day. This is what the typical meals do to people. The balance tips quickly, and the cumulative effect can derail your health goals entirely. One quick indulgent can set you back days, or weeks in your journey to healing. It’s a stark reminder of why planning these meals and treating them as truly special occasions is so important.

For us, celebration meals are part of our rhythm. We go in with a plan and come out with a plan. This is a choice, not a “crash and burn”. Last night was a planned choice for Lance’s birthday. Today, it’s time to clean up and refocus. That’s the key to balancing occasional celebrations with long-term health: having a strategy and sticking to it.  This will be our last indulgent meal until my birthday in May.  This will give us a good four months of consistency and health building.  Staying in healing mode consistently is what will help us rebuild health, and stop our “issues” from progressing.  You can read more about consistency here in our blog post Consistency is the Key to Rebuilding Your Health.

Cleaning Up: Game On Until May

This morning, I’m resetting with my trusted Dr. Boz Pucker Up drink, prioritizing high fats and ultra-low carbs with an early eating window. This cleanup phase is part of our broader commitment to consistency, especially as we look ahead to my birthday in May. Four months of focused effort feels attainable and aligns perfectly with the routines we’ve developed through the year.

We have found a rhythm and a schedule that helps us through the ebb and flows of the seasons.  We base this on our personal lifestyle, the holiday seasons, and we let the Dr. Boz’s 21-Day Metabolic Kickstart get us focused and on track twice a year.  This practice sets us up for the deep cleaning and healing. This also kicks off our 8 weeks of clean fasting routine.  We hope you will join our next 8 week fasting challenge.  (Check our  Events calendar for dates)  Or join our Free Group “Healthy Families Begin at Home“ and watch for details. This is when the magic really begins to show.  This is the time that you witness changes in your health, right before your eyes.  This is when you see all of your hard work and dedication give you the rewards of your practices.

Rebuilding health and halting the aging process isn’t always easy, but it’s absolutely worth it. Every meal is an opportunity to take control and prioritize healing. Living with intentionality in this area allows us to celebrate life’s special moments without losing sight of our long-term goals.  Celebrations are and should be “special”.  Celebration meals are not an every day, every week or even every month occurrence.  Save these for the times that are truly special throughout your year.  Look ahead and make a plan.  You should be able to go a few months without indulging.  This is what will enable you to reverse the years and decades of damage we have all done to our bodies.

Why Every Bite Matters

Celebration meals remind us of the power we hold in shaping our health journey. They’re special because they’re rare and intentional. When you choose to indulge, make it count, and follow up with a solid plan to get back on track. This balance ensures that your health remains a priority while still enjoying life’s moments of joy.

As we move forward, I’m reminded that consistency is key. Every bite is a choice, and every meal is an opportunity to rebuild and strengthen our health. Lance’s birthday was a wonderful occasion, but now it’s game on until May. Let’s focus, stay committed, and embrace the journey with purpose and determination.

Here’s to celebrating life while taking control of what we can. Let’s do this!
