The Power of 72-Hour Fasting: Week #3 of 8
It’s Monday, and we’re entering our third week of 72-hour fasting in our 8-week clean fasting challenge. If you’ve never done an extended fast before, you might think we’re crazy—or maybe you’ve even joked, “I would die if I went that long without eating!”
Trust me, I get it.
I used to be hypoglycemic, stuck in a vicious cycle of needing to eat every 2-3 hours just to avoid feeling awful. I would get a temporary boost of energy after eating, but within a couple of hours, I’d be crashing hard—shaky, weak, and desperate for food. My energy highs and lows controlled my entire day.
But everything changed when I became fat adapted. USING YOUR OWN FAT FOR FUEL IS A GAME CHANGER! Do you have stored fat you would like to utilize for your constant fuel source? Most of us do.
Now, instead of my body constantly demanding food, I run on stored fat as my primary fuel. This shift has made 72-hour fasting easier than I ever thought possible—and today, I want to share why it works, how it heals your body, and why you should consider giving it a try.
Why Fat Adaptation Makes Fasting Easier (And More Effective!)
One of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to fast is jumping in before they’re ready. If your body still relies on glucose for fuel, fasting will feel like torture—you’ll experience intense hunger, brain fog, and energy crashes.
But when you’re fat adapted, fasting feels completely different. Here’s why:
- Fasting is NOT starving. Starvation happens when your body is deprived of nutrients and has no energy reserves left to pull from.
- Fasting (when fat adapted) is a strategic and natural process that taps into stored fat for energy.
- Your Body Has a Steady Fuel Source: Instead of relying on food for energy, your body burns stored fat, keeping your energy stable throughout the day.
- No More Blood Sugar Crashes: You avoid the highs and lows of glucose spikes and dips, eliminating the shaky, sick feeling that once made skipping meals unbearable.
- Mental Clarity Soars: Your brain runs more efficiently on ketones than glucose, helping clear brain fog and boosting focus.
- Fasting Becomes a Healing Process Instead of a Struggle: With a steady supply of energy from stored fat, your body can focus on repairing cells, reducing inflammation, and optimizing metabolic function.
Bottom line?
Fasting without being fat adapted is like trying to run a marathon without training. If you want to experience the true benefits of fasting, start by adapting your body to burn fat first.
What Happens in a 72-Hour Fast?
A 72-hour fast is one of the most powerful tools for metabolic repair, fat loss, and healing. Here’s what happens at each stage:
At 24 Hours: The Switch Begins
- Your Body Begins Fat Burning Mode – Insulin drops, signaling your body to stop relying on sugar and start breaking down stored fat for energy.
- Hunger Decreases – If you’re fat adapted, hunger hormones like ghrelin start stabilizing, making the process easier.
- Mental Clarity Improves – As glucose levels drop, your brain starts switching to ketones, leading to sharper focus and clearer thinking.
At 48 Hours: Autophagy Kicks In
- Deep Cellular Cleanup Begins – Your body starts removing damaged cells and toxins (think of this like taking out the trash that’s been piling up).
- Inflammation Decreases – With no food triggering insulin spikes, inflammation naturally lowers, helping with pain, joint stiffness, and chronic conditions.
- Ketone Production Increases – Your brain runs more efficiently on ketones than glucose, leading to a deep sense of mental clarity and increased energy.
At 72 Hours: Full Metabolic Reset
- Stem Cell Regeneration Starts – Fasting triggers new immune cells to form, supporting a stronger immune system.
- Growth Hormone Surges – Your body increases growth hormone by up to 5x, which helps with muscle preservation and fat loss.
- Deep Healing Takes Place – With glucose completely depleted, your body is fully switched to fat burning mode and deeply engaged in cellular repair.
- Better Sleep and Sustained Energy – After fasting, your sleep improves, energy soars, and cravings disappear.
This is why I say fasting is like spring cleaning for your body.
Just like we can’t let clutter build up in our homes without doing a deep clean, we can’t eat all year long without giving our bodies time to reset and heal.
Tracking My Results: Healing in Progress
For the last 3–4 weeks, my Dr. Boz Ratio (DBR) has stayed in the 20-40 range—meaning my body is in a constant state of fat-burning, healing, and cellular repair. Just for reference, as a cancer patient would have a goal of 20 or below.
This is why I feel incredible during this 8-week challenge.
- My brain fog is gone.
- My energy is steady.
- My sleep is deep and restorative.
- My fat-based hormones are working properly, supporting my metabolism and weight loss.
This is the power of fasting with fat adaptation—your body functions the way it was designed to.
